“Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one’s own sunshine.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
When I first started my business, I thought that as long as I marketed, networked and launched more, the money would flow.
Not quite.
On my own journey, I’ve learned that there is more than marketing at play when it comes to your success in business AND in life.
Once I finally learned this, everything changed.
If you struggle with fear, doubt and shaky confidence in your business, it will be reflected in your bank account, no question.
So, you need tools and insights to stay in action and faith. But, it’s not about more, or better marketing.
Over the years, I’ve seen that I can give people my own plan, all the step by step, all the how to, everything on a silver platter and some of them will STILL not do what they need to do.
Why? Because they are getting in their own way.
Here are three ways this most commonly happens. Awareness about this is the first step to begin shifting things, so you move into a place of empowerment and of truly owning your brilliance.
1. You Don’t Realize That You’ll See it When You Believe it
We’re used to looking at this the opposite way, aren’t we?
Marketing is important, but it’s not the only thing dictating your success. What you believe about yourself deep down is SO incredibly important.
We often BELIEVE we’re not enough and that’s usually at the core of those things we say to ourselves in our most private moments. When no one else is listening. And it’s at those times that what we say is often deeply damaging.
Here’s what I’ve found: you can leapfrog to the top quickly if you act as if you are already there.
How would you behave if you were the most amazing in the world at what it is you do?
It starts with believing it. Now.
2. You Don’t Have a “B.M.W.” to Guide You
Your B.M.W. is your “Big Money Why.” Everyone would do it if entrepreneurship was a walk in the park, right? Challenges and struggles will keep arising at every new level you reach.
You need to know what is going to motivate you when things get tough, because they will. There is no such thing as a successful business without hard work.
No one sees the Saturdays, the Sunday nights, the Wednesday nights we work. I’ve sacrificed weekends building what I’ve built. I’ve delayed gratification to get things done. I’ve stayed up late and gotten up really early, and I am NOT a morning person.
But I do it because I have a mission to serve women, because I love what I do, and I have and a bigger why than just money.
Your Big Money Why will keep you on track because it’s your reason for doing what you do.
3. You’re Not Aware of How Your Money Consciousness Affects You
Don’t always be looking for cheap, or for a break, or for free. Money consciousness affects your success immensely.
You can’t focus on abundance when you are focused on scarcity and lack. Your life is a product of your thoughts, beliefs and actions. It’s very unlikely you’ll achieve wealth putting your time and effort into cutting coupons all the time, always looking for the cheapest option or constantly feeling anxious over the amount of money you have in the bank.
Keep your focus on your desired outcome.
Remember, it starts with you. Only you decide how far you can go.
Imagine what would happen if you began living your life assuming you can be, do or have anything you want?
When you stop making the assumption that things are not for you, the shifts you’ll experience will be profound.
And when you finally get out of your own way, the life you dream of becomes real.
Great article, I always enjoy stopping by this blog. Thanks for sharing Christine.
Thanks Gary!
Good info as always. I really enjoy your posts.
The last point is particularly salient. If you are always looking for the cheapest route for your business then you’ll feel that way to your customers, who will either be put off by your cheap appearance, substandard product/service, or expect you to treat them to the same free/break/cheapest goods/services you expect from others.
Appreciate it Adam!
You could not be more right on with this Christine! It’s the #1 thing that blocked me. I had all the skills (for the most part) and was STILL not making money, and it came down to a lack of gratitude, combined with deep-rooted fear and doubt that were blocking me. Things started to change when I got over it. I can never afford to think that way again. Love you! 🙂
So glad to hear about this awareness Angela 🙂 Thanks for your comment!
i think that this is definitely my biggest struggle! Changing your mindset and maintaining that change is very hard to do and requires constant reinforcement. On point as always Christine! Thank you.
Absolutely, there is no “mindset nirvana!” Great to see you topping by Brenda 🙂
