As entrepreneurs, it’s common for many of us to dismissively think that there are so many people out there doing the same thing that we do.

What makes ME any different than them, we ask ourselves.

Sure, it may appear that way on the surface, but in reality you were born an original–and there is no one else quite like you. (Sounds cliche, but it’s true.)

In the age of social media, business owners can’t hide behind a “corporate” or faceless facade… and that’s actually a good thing! In fact, it’s to your benefit to share your personality.

But how do you get down to the essence of who you are so that you can sprinkle it over everything you do?

In this week’s tip I am going to give you three simple exercises that will help you uncover this. Plus, I’ll share a few specific suggestions for how to begin weaving this into your own marketing.

1) Explore your own compelling story.

As entrepreneurs, having a strong conviction and belief in the services or products we are selling is key. Often our conviction stems from the fact that we ourselves are our ideal client or customer! This simply means our prospects see themselves in our “before.” Weaving the story of your “before” and “after” into your marketing can be very compelling for prospects–and it gives people a big glimpse into who we are.

So, how did you get to where you are today?

2) The 10 things most people don’t know about you.

When you take some time to think about this, what you come up with can be very telling (even if it seems silly or insignificant!) Did you dye your hair blue when you were in college? Was the career you had before this one something people would have never guessed you did? Dig deep…this can get interesting!

3) Your top 3 passions related to your work in the world, and your top 3 passions that are unrelated to your work.

What you are passionate about says a lot about what makes you tick. It is also often what draws others to you and causes certain people to resonate with who you are at the very core of your being. Are you letting what you are passionate about shine through?

Your to-do? Try these exercises yourself. Then, weave in the elements of what makes you YOU by adding them to the copy on your website, such as on your About page, or in your blog posts. Share what you’ve uncovered in social media through your status updates, tweets, and in the photos and videos you share. You can even incorporate your story into your signature talk if you speak in person or on teleclasses.

See? There is nobody quite like you, and I say let’s celebrate it 🙂
